Week 3 | Day 3 – THE PROMISE OF ABRAHAM – Romans 4:1-15
In Romans 4, Paul continues the argument he began in Romans 3: that no one can earn righteousness through the Law or through moral effort. To prove his point, Paul reaches back to the story of Abraham—the father of the Jewish people and a man revered by both Jews and Gentiles. Abraham was counted righteous before the Law was given and before he was circumcised. How? He simply believed God’s promise, and that faith was “credited to him as righteousness.”
This is the heart of the gospel. We are not saved by what we do but by believing in what Christ has done. Through Jesus, God has opened the door of His family to all people—Jew and Gentile, male and female, slave and free. Abraham becomes the father of all who believe, and we are welcomed into that same covenant family by grace through faith.
APPLICATION
1 - Grace is available for All—but not Automatic
God’s mercy has always been available to anyone who believes. His promise is not limited by race, culture, or background.
2 - You are a Child of the Promise
If you trust in Christ, you share in Abraham’s blessing. You belong in God’s family.
3 - Equal Access for Everyone—but Belief is Required
God shows no favoritism. Jesus is an equal-opportunity Savior, welcoming all who believe.
4 - Faith Alone—Attempted Good Works Only Get in the Way
Salvation isn’t earned by good deeds or religious rituals. It’s a gift received by faith.
Because I am a child of the promise, I recognize that my salvation is by grace alone. I didn’t earn it—I simply received it. This truth calls me to live in gratitude, to rest in God’s faithfulness, and to extend grace to others. It also challenges me to live responsibly, not taking His gift for granted, but daily walking in step with the Holy Spirit. As part of Abraham’s family, I am called to be a witness of God’s faithfulness, sharing the hope of the gospel with everyone I encounter.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You that my standing with You is not based on what I can do but on what Christ has already done. Just as Abraham believed and was counted righteous, I too place my trust in Your promises. Guard my heart from pride, reminding me that I am no better than anyone else—I am simply a recipient of Your grace. Help me live each day with gratitude, walking in obedience, and sharing the good news of Jesus with those around me. May my life point others to Jesus who justifies the ungodly and welcomes all into His family. Amen.
