Week 5 | Day 1 THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER Matthew 9:20-24 | Mark 5:25-43 | Luke 8:40-56

In three Gospel accounts, two crises collide in one crowded moment—a woman who has suffered for years with a blood issue reaches for Jesus’ garment in quiet desperation, while Jairus—a respected synagogue leader—falls at Jesus’ feet in public desperation for his dying daughter. One touches His hem; one clings to His help—both are in desperate need of His intervention. In both incidences, Jesus responded with graciousness and compassion, but not because He is pressured by panic, but because He is moved with mercy and acts with sovereign authority—over sickness, shame, delay, and even death. And He still does today. Whether desperate of simply dependent, anyone, and any time, can trust in the touch of Jesus to bring hope and healing according to His will.

Application

  1. Bring Your Need to Jesus Before It Becomes an Emergency

Faith doesn’t have to be fueled by crisis, but often crisis reveals what we’ve been trusting all along. Don’t wait until you’re out of options to turn to the One who is always an option.

  1. Desperation is not Disqualification—it can be a Doorway

The woman had an “issue” she couldn’t fix, and Jairus had a problem he couldn’t manage. Jesus wasn’t repulsed by their weakness; He met them in it. Your weakness may be the very place He plans to show His strength.

  1. God is Not Obligated by Our Urgency, but He is Attentive to Our Faith

Jesus stops for the woman even while a child is dying. The delay isn’t cruelty—it’s a reminder: God’s timing is part of God’s care. He may not answer the way you want, but He will not ignore the heart that comes to Him.

  1. Faith is More Than “He can.” It’s Trusting "He will”

Jairus hears the worst news—“Your daughter is dead”—and Jesus immediately reframes the moment: Don’t fear; only believe. Sometimes faith is not a shout—it’s a steady grip on Jesus when circumstances collapse.

  1. Jesus Doesn’t Just Heal Bodies; He Restores Hearts

He calls the woman “daughter,” giving dignity back to someone who’d been defined by her affliction. And He takes a little girl by the hand, showing that no situation is too late when He arrives.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come to You without pretending I’m fine. Like the woman in the crowd, I’m reaching for You because I have needs I cannot fix. Like Jairus, I’m laying down my pride, my position, and my sense of control because the people I love are beyond my ability to help. Lord, I am desperate—and I have nowhere else to turn. I ask You for a divine healing touch. Heal a head and a heart. Heal what is physical and what is spiritual. Heal what is seen and what is hidden. If there is suffering that will magnify Your glory, give us faith to endure; but if it pleases You, speak life and healing with a word. Help me not to wait until I’m desperate to seek You, and when I am desperate, help me not to believe I’m bothering You. I trust Your heart even when I don’t understand Your timing. In Your mighty and merciful name, Amen.
