Week 6 | Day 4 THE TRANSFIGURATION Matthew 17:1-13 | Mark 9:2-13 | Luke 9:28-36

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain to pray, and there—away from the crowds and the noise—His appearance was suddenly transformed. His face shone with glory, His clothes flashed with heavenly brilliance, and Moses and Elijah appeared, speaking with Him about His coming “departure”—His suffering, death, and resurrection. As the disciples struggled to comprehend what they were seeing, a cloud enveloped them and the Father’s voice declared, “This is My Son, whom I have chosen; listen to Him.” In a single moment, God revealed who Jesus truly is, affirmed that the cross was central to His mission, and called His followers to trust and obey His Son above all else.

The Transfiguration was important because it revealed Jesus’ true divine glory and confirmed that He was God’s Son, worthy of worship and obedience. It also strengthened the disciples for the coming cross by showing that His suffering was part of God’s planned “exodus” and would ultimately lead to glory.

Application

1. See Jesus Clearly

The Transfiguration reminds us that Jesus is not merely a teacher or helper, but the glorious Son of God, worthy of our worship and trust.

2. Listen and Watch Before You Act

The Father’s command was not to build tents or preserve the moment, but to listen to Jesus—especially when His words challenge our comfort or expectations.

3. Don’t Fear the Path of Obedience

Glory and suffering were discussed in the same breath, reminding us that God often leads us through difficulty to accomplish His redemptive purposes.

4. Let Mountaintop Moments Shape Valley Faithfulness
God gives us glimpses of His glory not so we can stay there, but so we have courage to walk faithfully when life descends back into the ordinary and hard places.

Prayer

Lord, help me to see You for who You really are and not just for who I want You to be in my life. Help me to decrease so that You can increase within me. Allow Your glory to overwhelm me just as it did the disciples. Teach me to listen to Your voice, trust Your ways—even when they lead through the valley—and follow You with humble, obedient faith. Amen.
