Week 3 | Day 2 TREASURES IN HEAVEN Matthew 6:19-34

In this text, Jesus asked a piercing question—What are you really living for? He warns us not to live for earthly treasures that can be stolen, ruined, or lost, but to pursue treasures in heaven that are secure forever because wherever our treasure is, our hearts will follow. He then reminds us that what we focus on shapes who we become. The “eye” is the lamp of the body—if our gaze is fixed on God and His kingdom, our lives will be full of light; but if our gaze is fixed on money and stuff, our hearts grow dark and divided because no one can serve God and money—only one will always sit on the throne. The determining factor is decided by our concern. If we live for earthly security, we will always be anxious about having enough, while if we seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, we can rest in the Father’s care. Instead of chasing what fades, we’re invited to trust His provision and live as faithful stewards of what He’s already entrusted to us.

Application

  1. Check Where Your Treasure Is

Look honestly at your bank statements, calendar, and thought life. What do they say you value most—God’s kingdom or earthly comfort, convenience, and cravings?

  1. Guard the Gateway of Your Eyes

Be intentional about what you look at, scroll through, and daydream about. Ask: Is this feeding contentment and trust in God, or stirring envy, greed, and comparison?

  1. Practice Biblical Stewardship and Generosity

Commit to tithing and intentional giving. Let generosity be a tangible way you remind your heart that money is a tool, not a god.

  1. Turn Worry into Worship

When anxiety about money or the future rises, pause and pray: “Father, You know what I need.” Name your concern, then choose to trust His care and provision.

  1. Choose Contentment throughout Your Day

Regularly thank God for what you already have—His presence, His salvation, daily bread, and the people He’s given you. Contentment grows where gratitude is practiced.

Prayer

Father, Thank You that You are the true Provider of my life and not my paycheck, my savings, or even my plans. Forgive me for the times I’ve chased money, security, or status more than I’ve sought Your kingdom. Expose where my treasures—and therefore my heart—have drifted toward earthly things that fade away. Teach me to store up treasure in heaven and help me to guard my eyes and desires so that what fills my heart brings You honor. Help me to give generously, steward wisely, and live content with what You’ve entrusted to me. And when worry rises, remind me that You care for the birds and the flowers—and You care far more for me. Today, I choose You as my only Master. Help me to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will provide what I truly need. In Jesus’ name, amen.
